Old time music is part of our cultural heritage, enjoyed by all ages, young and old alike. The style originated in England, Ireland and Scotland. Fiddlers were ever present in wagon trains and around campfires as the early settlers made their long journeys across the prairies and mountains bound for the west in California and Oregon. The music found it’s way to the western homesteads and was heard at barn raisings, community gatherings and dances.
The California State Old Time Fiddlers Association (CSOTFA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and perpetuation of Old Time Fiddling. The organization conducts an Old Time Fiddle Contest during March each year at Oroville, California. CSOFTA District 2, in keeping with this heritage, hosts jam sessions, dances, events, and meetings. See calendar for details.
These sessions are open to the public. A club goal is to encourage and sponsor aspiring fiddlers of all ages. We welcome young, old and everything in between. Come enjoy the music, sing along, tap your toes, dance, and bring your instrument if you play.
The California State Old Time Fiddlers’ Association is a California non-profit corporation and is an IRS 501 (c)(3) charitable organization. Donations to this organization are deductible for Income Tax purposes and are greatly appreciated.
